The ingredients:

- Natural vegan soy wax
- 100% pure, therapeutic-grade essential oils & aromatic extracts
- Eco-cotton wicks
- Dried botanicals
- Glass jars with metal lids
- Recycled Kraft paper labels

Why these things are important to us:

- Commercially produced candles are typically made from paraffin wax, which is actually a petroleum product (yes, the same petroleum used to make gasoline and plastics.)
- Our wax brand is made from soy beans grown & processed in North America, which helps cut back on our carbon footprint. Soy is also a renewable resource, paraffin is a by-product of petroleum and thus non-renewable.
- Soy wax burns slower than paraffin wax, producing a candle that lasts longer.

- Chemical perfumes can contain phthalates which can sometimes cause sneezing, headaches & asthma irritation in people with 'scent'sitivity.
- Aromatherapy is a holistic therapy using essential oils and aromatics, extracted from plants, flowers, leaves, roots, barks, resins and rinds of some fruits, to aid in the healing and enhancing of the mind & body.

- Our wicks are made of braided cotton and interwoven with paper filaments (other cotton wicks can have a zinc wire core). Eco-cotton wicks are self-trimming (by curling over), which allows for a decrease in mushrooming, soot & smoke.
- These wicks are pre-coated with soy wax (others can be pre-coated with paraffin, which relates back to a previous point we made) to add rigidity during the assembly process, ensuring that the wick is as centered as possible.
- Wooden wicks can be difficult to work with when finding the correct size, and can often burn "too hot" causing the candle to be melted in a shorter amount of time.
- Wick tabs (the metal foot at the bottom) for wooden wicks are much taller than on cotton wicks. When the flame reaches the metal tab, it will extinguish, leaving a larger amount of the candle unable to burn in the end. The wood wicks can have a nice crackle and ambience, but they inevitably are enjoyed for less time than a cotton wicked candle.

- Many of the dried flowers and herbs you see decorating the tops of our candles are grown locally, including my own garden. This ensures that they are as true and natural as possible, and again minimizes the carbon footprint. We use a rotating selection of locally Alberta roasted coffee beans for the Coffee Shop candle.

- Glass jars can be recycled, and reused perpetually! We do take your spent candle jars back to wash and reuse again & again, plus you get $1 back for every jar! OR you can wash them up yourselves and use them for holding little bits & bobs.
*See our "tips" page for info on what to do with your jars*

- The brown kraft paper labels are made from 100% recycled materials and are much easier to remove when repurposing your jar than other labels we've tried.
